CURRENT CONCEPTS OF REMOVABLE PROSTHODONTICS

This program will cover the current concepts of partial denture design including biomechanics of RPD design, positive rests, bracing and guide planes, retainers and coverage of extension areas. Mastication efficiency vs implant supported fixed partial dentures will be explored along with the prognostic factors, epidemiology and patient satisfaction.

Complete dentures will be also be discussed including the issues of bilateral balance vs neutrocentric, implant assisted overlay dentures and implant supported overlay prostheses for edentulous patients.

Finally, implant concepts and controversies will be considered. Topics will include the biologic basis including machine surfaces vs micro-rough surfaces vs nanoenhanced surfaces, heal times, bone anchorage and patient selection criteria for immediate loading.

Patient selection criteria and pitfalls of immediate placement into extractions sites will be reviewed as will implants in maxillofacial rehabilitation including maxillary defects, mandibular defects, facial defects and implants in growing children. The course will conclude with implants and bisphosphonates.
