PRACTICE GROWTH AND IMPLANT DENTISTRY -
ARE IMPLANTS CHANGING THE WAY YOU PRACTICE?

Today, dental practitioners and laboratory personnel are relying more on the use of implants in their treatment plans. New implant designs and restorative components may be changing implant placement guide lines. Protocols for immediately placed single and multiple implants with provisionals are changing the flow of treatment. This lecture will review the latest advances in implant dentistry and how they are changing the way we will practice in the future. Suggestions for integrating a conventional philosophy for restoring dental implants involving simplified restorative procedures, which may decrease chair time, will be introduced. An update on CAD/CAM technology will be discussed from a laboratory and office perspective. CAD/CAM in implant dentistry can increase efficiency by decreasing chair and lab time for many labor intensive procedures, allowing time on more productive procedures. CAD/CAM offers new philosophy for restoring and fabricating implant abutments and frameworks. Topics to be discussed in this presentation include:

  • Changing implant placement guidelines
  • Surgical considerations and treatment planning for implant placement in the anterior maxilla
  • Staging extraction of multiple restoratively hopeless teeth to preserve hard and soft tissue
  • When to consider distraction osteogenesis and orthodontic extrusion prior to implant placement
  • How to avoid and manage complications
  • CAD/CAM in implant and esthetic dentistry
  • The 1-2-3- appointment approach to restoring dental implants
  • Abutment selection, decisions on choosing profile, size and material
